2010 IED SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION
Summer Hours of operation: 7:30-5:30
Summer at IED is relaxed and fun, with plenty of time for outside play. We'll have weekly themes to explore through the arts throughout summer, brush up on soccer skills, experience children's games from other countries, work as a team to solve challenges, and play water games on hot summer days! In addition, children will have time to help in the garden, cook, and craft all summer long. Activities are designed for k (must be 5 years old by June 1st 2010) through 6th grade. We'll divide into two groups each morning for different age appropriate activities, coming together at different points in the day for lunch, outside play time, and so on. Healthy snacks will be offered three times a day.
Children are enrolled on a weekly basis. You may register for any week/s. In order to reserve a spot for your child, please register by May21st, 2010. After that registrations will be taken on a space available basis.
WEEKLY THEMES
Week 1 Shipwrecked June 21-June 25. Our version of Survivor has kids working together to win challenges in numerous nutty events. Mornings are filled with physical challenges like three legged races, obstacle courses and water balloon relays. Other challenges like trivia and puzzles, each "tribe" will have to solve together. This is all about teamwork and good sportsmanship. Afternoons are spent doing Art from Island cultures like Jamaica, Hawaii and Tahiti. The last day of camp, kids will have a Luau to celebrate Island culture with food and games.
Week 2 Spy Camp June 28-July 2. Mornings are spent doing "fieldwork" tossing water balloons, having relay races and playing favorite tag games. Then it's off to training camp for junior secret agents. Learn how to dust for fingerprints, test mysterious powders and break secret codes. Every day will focus around a new mystery for campers to solve.
Week 3 Time Machine July 12-16. Travel back in time this week to relive a different era every day! Climb on board IED's Time Machine and head to the 1950's for a sock hop and ice cream soda. Head into the future where Robot's rule the world. Five days of camp and five amazing travels where camp fun takes the shape of somewhere else than the day before! One morning may take us to see dinosaurs, and the next to a 1970's Disco party.
Week 4 Soccer & Stuff-it July 19-July 23. Start the days with our intensive mini-soccer camp both for beginners and skilled players. Learn new skills and tricks while scrimmaging with friends and show us your stuff! In the afternoon let the needles fly when IED turns into a determined troupe of inspired artists as kids design their own monsters, sock puppets and pillows out of fabric. These critters are guaranteed to make you laugh. Move over ugly dolls!! No sewing experience necessary.
Week 5 Olympics/Mythical Creatures July 26-July 30 Percy Jackson heads to Mt. Olympus this summer and so do we! Spend the week immersed in a world of Mythical Creatures from around the world. Elves and Unicorns from Europe, Dragons from Asia, and of course, Centaur's, Minotaur's and Pegasus from Greece. We also will be holding our own Olympic events as we dive into these ancient cultures. IED will host the summer games in events like triathlon, discus and watermelon seed spitting contests.
Week 6 Rock Starz August 2-6. Mornings are spent on the field playing old favorites like kickball and capture the flag. Then watch out, because IED will be introducing its second totally cool "air" band competition. Create musical props out & outfits out of found materials, complete with glitter sunglasses, crazy hair and costumes. Kids pick their favorite songs, and jam to on faux equipment with friends in air bands. Groups will perform for each other daily during this week of music mayhem
Week 7 Around the World August 9-August 13 "Travel" to other countries by learning about kids from other countries. Every morning we will be playing games from places such as Italy, Finland, and Greece. Each afternoon this week children will experience foods and crafts from other cultures to present a well rounded look at how young people in other countries live and have fun! On Friday IED will host a mini International Olympics where everyone can win!
Week 8 Soccer & Inventors August 16-August 20. We will continue to master our ball handling skills this week, kicking, passing and having games in preparation for the league starts. Then it's off to the mad scientists' lab where we will concoct some gross gooey messes while learning a thing or two about science. Make a moving robot hand, create a periscope to see around corners, or design a lava lamp! Be sure to wear something you can get dirty in!
